Micro Finance Kenya

Deposit-taking microfinance institutions are financial institutions that can accept deposits from customers. They are not the same as commercial banks. They operate under a different kind of licence. This section helps you find practical details about these institutions, such as branch locations and phone numbers. Many branches and head offices are in Nairobi, Kenya’s largest city, while institutions may also have branches in other places.

Deposit-taking microfinance institutions are licensed and supervised by the Central Bank of Kenya. The Central Bank publishes the official register used to check the licence details shown in this directory. The register currently lists 47 licensed institutions of all kinds in Kenya. It does not divide this total by kind of licence, so the figure should not be read as the number of commercial banks or deposit-taking microfinance institutions.

You can use each directory page to check an institution’s contact and location details. You can also confirm whether it appears on the Central Bank of Kenya register. This is useful before visiting a branch or calling an institution.
